This monastic hermitage was built on the steep cliffs over Lake Maggiore and is one of the most fascinating and inspiring location along the lake.
The Eremo of Santa Caterina del Sasso was founded by Alberto Besozzi, a wealthy local merchant, who became a hermit living inside a cave after having survived a terrible lake storm. He later became a symbol and inspiration for spiritual life. The Eremo takes its name from the chapel at the bottom of the church (open to visitors), which was dedicated to Santa Caterina of Egypt by the Blessed Albert
This historic and world-famous building is only 3 km away from the Residenza La Torre and can be reached in 5 mins by car. From there, you can also take the ferry to the Borromeo Islands.
Laveno-Mombello it's one of the most important towns on the Lombardy side of the lake.
Thanks to its strategic position it is one of the main departure points for tourists visiting Lake Maggiore. From the harbour one can catch the ferry to Intra, another hot-spot destination on the Piedmont side. The journey takes about 20 minutes, then from Intra the smaller ferries to the Borromeo island are also very popular.
Laveno-Mombello is about 8 km from La Residenza La Torre and can be reached by car in 10 minutes.
The touristic history of Angera goes back to ancient times, thanks to its privileged position along the southern part of Lake Maggiore.
The view from the Rocca Borromeo stretches over the surrounding areas and the lake and is truly breath-taking. The castle is one of the best kept constructions from the Middle Ages. From Angera it is possible to catch the ferry across to Arona, another important touristic destination in the area.
Angera is approximately 12 km away from the Residenza La Torre and can be reached in 15 minutes by car.
