This monastic hermitage was built on the steep cliffs over Lake Maggiore and is one of the most fascinating and inspiring location along the lake.

The Eremo of Santa Caterina del Sasso was founded by Alberto Besozzi, a wealthy local merchant, who became a hermit living inside a cave after having survived a terrible lake storm. He later became a symbol and inspiration for spiritual life. The Eremo takes its name from the chapel at the bottom of the church (open to visitors), which was dedicated to Santa Caterina of Egypt by the Blessed Albert

This historic and world-famous building is only 3 km away from the Residenza La Torre and can be reached in 5 mins by car. From there, you can also take the ferry to the Borromeo Islands.
